Ridgewood Investments’ approach to advising our plan sponsors and their 401k plans is to emphasize the creation of high quality investment options in every plan we advise. As experienced investment managers, we recommend plans by identifying funds and investment options that increase the overall investment quality of the plan. Our plans are designed to offer all participants a choice among an ample menu of investment funds across a range of asset classes and categories – with an emphasis on value based funds that are low cost and no-load.
Since the vast majority of plan participants are do-it-for-me rather than do-it-themselves investors, Ridgewood-advised 401k and 403b plans also offer employees the option to invest in professionally managed model portfolios that take the burden of the initial creation of a portfolio and ongoing oversight and occasional rebalancing away from the plan participant. As a result, our typical advised 401k plan will also generally feature several Ridgewood designed model portfolios (including a growth model, a balanced model, and a conservative model) to meet the needs of a variety of participants.
In many cases, Ridgewood can significantly contribute to improving plan outcomes for the employee participants of those plan sponsors who wish to improve the overall construction of their existing defined contribution of defined benefit plans while simultaneously reducing their liability for the selection of plan investments.
